Democrat Rebecca Cooke won her rematch with incumbent Republican Derrick Van Orden while the 1st congressional race between incumbent Republican Bryan Steil and Democrat Mitchell Berman remained too close to call late Tuesday with Berman holding a 3.0 percentage point lead with 92% of precincts reporting.

Cooke said that Van Orden called to concede the race before 10:30 p.m.

Van Orden won the 2024 race between the two by 2.7 percentage points.

During this, Van Orden accused Cooke of being a Democratic lobbyist who has worked with groups that have both promoted data centers and have close ties with China.

Cooke’s campaign says that she is focusing lowering costs and combating corruption while putting money in the pockets of working families and retirees instead of the ultra wealthy and corporations.

Steil is chairman of the Committee on House Administration and a member of the House Financial Services Committee.

He ran on a platform of cutting government spending, securing the border and protecting both Social Security and Medicare.

Berman, an emergency room nurse, says he will push for a ban on members of Congress owning stocks and is the subject of a recent push from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Berman planned to fight to raise the federal minimum wage, expand child tax credits and the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and expand Medicaid.

Berman wanted to ban private equity firms from purchasing single-family homes and hospitals along with capping out-of-pocket prescription drug costs.
