Republican Ashley Moody won the race for U.S. Senate in Florida to fill the remainder of Marco Rubio’s term.
Moody led with 51% of the vote over Democratic candidate Angie Nixon withmore than 95% of precinct reporting at 8:45 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, according to the New York Times.
Moody was selected by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to fill Marco Rubio’s U.S. Senate seat following his appointment as Secretary of State in the Trump administration.
The incumbent U.S. Senator has positioned herself as a staunch ally of the Trump administration and pushed for passage of key legislation, including the SAVE America Act, a bill that would make significant changes to mail-in voting and voter ID across the country.
“This is a no brainer and not controversial. Americans support identification to vote because only Americans should be able to choose their representatives to make laws on their behalf,” Moody wrote on social media.
Moody will need to run again in 2028 for a full U.S. Senate term as the seat will return to the ballot.
