On Tuesday, August 25, local and state leaders, law enforcement, educators, students, community leaders, and concerned citizens gathered at O.M. McNair Gymnasium for a community meeting addressing the ongoing violence and crime affecting Humphreys County.
Throughout the evening, speakers shared powerful and often emotional messages about the impact violence is having on our young people, our schools, our families, and the community as a whole. Students and community leaders were among those who spoke, along with local and state officials discussing the challenges facing Humphreys County and efforts to move the community forward.
WELZ was there to provide live coverage for those who could not attend. Below is our complete, unedited coverage of the meeting, presented without commentary so that everyone has an opportunity to hear directly from those who spoke.
Our thoughts remain with the families, students, educators, and everyone affected by the recent violence in our community.
