Voters across Florida cast ballots in competitive U.S. House of Representatives races Tuesday, denying Republicans many of the pickups the state’s new congressional map intended to deliver.
House Republicans went into the midterm elections with a slim majority of 218 seats to Democrats’ 214, with one independent and two vacancies. To take back control of the chamber, Democrats would need to net four of the 435 seats up for reelection.
Tuesday’s election is the first test for Florida’s new congressional map, which was adopted earlier this year in favor of Republican candidates. Florida is one of 10 states that underwent mid-decade redistricting ahead of the 2026 midterms.
Here are the results in some of Florida’s tightest House races.
District 25
U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla, is projected to win Florida’s 25th Congressional District, defeating Republican Scott Singer in one of the state’s most closely watched races, according to the Associated Press.
Moskowitz had 51.3% of the vote with 97% reported.
Moskowitz currently represents the 23rd District but launched a reelection campaign in the 25th District after Florida’s mid-decade redistricting. He ran as a moderate Democrat willing to break with his party, touting his vote in favor of the Republican-led Laken Riley Act.
Singer is the former mayor of Boca Raton and centered his campaign around an endorsement from President Donald Trump. He campaigned on immigration enforcement, infrastructure development and lowering the cost of living by attracting higher-paying jobs.
Trump won by 9 points within the boundaries of the new 25th District in 2024, according to the Downballot.
District 14
U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Fla., is projected to win the race for Florida’s 14th Congressional District. The Associated Press called the race shortly after polls closed.
Castor had 51.2% of the vote Tuesday night, with 97% of ballots counted.
Castor, who has represented Tampa in the House for 20 years, campaigned on lowering housing costs and expanding wind and solar generation. The race against Republican Mike Beltran was her first competitive challenge.
Castor defeated Beltran, a Florida state representative who focused his campaign on tax cuts and balancing the federal budget. He aligned himself with the Republican caucus’s economic priorities, including the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed into law last year.
District 22
Democrat Pia Dandiya is projected to win the 22nd Congressional District, overcoming Republican Casey Askar in the race for the redrawn House seat, according to CNN and NBC News.
Dandiya had 51.9% of the vote with 96% counted.
The race had no incumbent after Rep. Lois Frankel, D-Fla., announced she would seek election in the 23rd District following Florida’s redistricting efforts.
District 27
The race between U.S. Rep. María Elvira Salazar and Democrat Eliott Rodriguez was too close to call early Wednesday morning. Salazar led Rodriguez 50.3% to 49.7% with 99% of the vote counted.
Salazar has represented the Republican-leaning Miami district for six years in Washington, D.C. Eliott Rodriguez, a former news anchor, is a first-time political candidate.
