WBYP Update

We wanted to give everyone an update on WBYP and what’s currently going on.

As many of you have noticed, WBYP is temporarily off the air. We know how important the station is to the community, and we’re working quickly to get service restored.

The outage was caused by significant storm and ice damage to our main transmission antenna. We were able to continue operating on a backup antenna for a time, but that system failed this past weekend. Due to safety concerns related to the tower structure, immediate repairs at the main site are not possible.

To restore service as quickly as possible, we have filed for Special Temporary Authority (STA) with the FCC to operate from our previous studio site at 2,000 watts. Our team is actively working to get this temporary facility on the air as soon as tomorrow or Thursday.

This temporary signal should provide strong coverage across Yazoo City. Listeners in Belzoni may experience weaker reception due to the lower power and distance, but this will allow us to return to the air while permanent repairs are completed.

We truly appreciate your patience and support while we work through this. We’ll continue to provide updates as progress is made.
