James “Harrison” Moore, Jr. passed away peacefully on April 25, 2022 at his home in Vaughan Mississippi. He was 79 years old. He was born on “Friday the 13th” of January, 1943 to James Harrison Moore, Sr. and Geraldine “Jerry” Moore. He was the eldest son.
Harrison is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Moore; four sons, Jimmy (Amy) Moore of Vaughan, Mark (Sarah) Moore of British Virgin Islands, Dr. Hugh Scott Moore of Vaughan, and David (Elizabeth) Moore of Vaughan. Five grandchildren, Andrew, Benjamin, Kate, Claire and Nicholas. Sisters, Mabel Rivers Smith, Mary Agnes Westbrook, Joan Pepper, and brothers William Moore, John Moore and Larry Moore.
Harrison graduated from Benton High School and then served in the Army National Guard. He went on to graduate from Mississippi State University with a degree in Animal Husbandry. After graduating from Mississippi State, he came back to his hometown of Vaughan and started farming; thus, Moore Farms was created. He spent his life as a farmer, father, husband, and devoted Christian.
Harrison was a lifelong member of Ellison United Methodist Church in Vaughan where he served on numerous committees. He also served on numerous agricultural committees: Mississippi Farm Bureau where he was named Farmer of the Year; Yazoo County Farm Service Agency County Committee where he served as committee chairperson; Madison County Co Op where he served as President. He also served many years as Board Member and Board President for Benton Academy.
Visitation will be at Ellison United Methodist Church in Vaughan on Friday 29, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with funeral at 11:00 under the direction of Stricklin King Funeral Home of Yazoo City.
