Funeral Announcement – Eugene Rogers Brooks

Graveside Funeral Services for Eugene Rogers Brooks of Bentonia, MS, who passed away Tuesday, June 16,2020, at the age of 93.  After several months of declining health, Eugene passed peacefully with his beloved daughter, Mary by his side.  Eugene was born February 9, 1927 to James Monroe Brooks and Mornie Horne.  He was a proud World War II Veteran, and served his country honorable to protect our freedom.  At the end of the war, he returned to further his education at Hinds Community College where he met his wife, Laura Frances Shackelford.  They settled in Bentonia, where he raised his family and served as deacon of Bentonia Baptist Church for many years,  He was a living testament to what Christianity is all about, witnessing to everyone he met.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and by his sisters. Mona May Terrell and Alpha Lewis; and great grandson;  Taylor Stevens.  He is survived by his three children;  Jimmy (Alice) Brooks, Mary (Phil) Brooks, and Shack (Paula) Brooks, 9 Grandchildren; Michael (Karla) Brooks,  Leann (David) Edwards, Laura Brooks, Jeremy (Angela) Dixon, Bryan (Liz) Dixon, Audrey (Jarrad) Creel, Chesley (Chris) Alias, Emily (Darryl) Gibbs, and Adam (Emily) Brooks; and 23 great grandchildren;  Mary Grace Books, Olivia Brooks, Tag Brooks, Carson Maddox, Haley Maddox, Madelyn Edwards, Logan Edwards, Maddie Grace Lee, Alan Lee, Brooks Dixon, Lily Myers, Lauren Boals, Dixon Creel, Ada Creel, Anne Marie Alias, Alex Alias, Noah Shackelford Gibbs, Baiden Gibbs, Pate Gibbs, Sarah Gibbs, Mary Ella Brooks, Bryce Brooks and Lily Brooks.  No visitation is planned due to Covid-19.  A private family graveside service is planned for Friday, June 19, 2020, at 11:00 am, at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City, MS, beside his loving wife Frances.  Stricklin King Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.  The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, calls and visits.  Also, a special thanks to all the employees at Martha Coker Green House Homes, Mariah House for the wonderful loving care they gave our daddy.   People wishing to honor Eugene's lifelong commitment to family, church, and country can make donations to Bentonia Baptist Church, P.O.
