Funeral Announcement – Billy Joe Ragland

Billy Joe Ragland, best known to his family and friends as “Rock,” passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021. He was loved by all for his generous and fun-loving personality. As a life-long farmer he was a cherished mentor to many.

Billy Joe was born in Yazoo City on December 8, 1948 to James Hubert Ragland and Margaret Gertrude Sumrall Ragland. He was raised in Satartia, MS and graduated from Bentonia High School in 1966. After graduating Billy Joe joined with his father-in-law, Thomas J. Kirk, and began a farming business that has grown into a 3-generation multifaceted operation. He was an active member in all aspects of the farming community. He served as a board member of the Yazoo County Soil and Water Conservation, State Soybean Promotion Board, Farm Service Agency, Cotton Producers Gin and as president of the Yazoo County Farm Bureau.
Billy Joe is survived by his wife, Deborah Ragland; daughter Lori Ledlow and her husband Michael; son Ryan Ragland and his wife Sarah and six grandchildren: Morgan Stoner (Smith Stoner), Devin Ledlow (Wyeth Faucett Ledlow), Anna Ryan Ragland, Libbi Kyle Ragland, Reese Ragland and Maggie Day Ragland. He also leaves behind his sisters: Francis Lloyd, Ruth Torrans, and Carol Parrett. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Bobby Ragland and James Ragland and his sister Geraldine Kain.
He will always be our ROCK.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 22, 2021 at 2:00p.m. at First United Methodist Church Yazoo City under the direction of Stricklin King Funeral Home A private, family only graveside service will follow. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to First United Methodist Church or Manchester Academy.
