Nathan Thomas (Tommy) Clay, Jr. (83) passed away at the SECU Jim & Betsy Bryan Hospice Home of UNC Health Care in North Carolina on December 14, 2023. The family has entrusted Stricklin King Funeral Home of Yazoo City, MS with the arrangements. Graveside services will be held December 18, 2023 at Glenwood Cemetery with graveside visitation at 1:30 PM followed by services at 2:00 PM with Brother Ken Lynch of Parkview Church of God officiating. The family would like to thank the Hospice Home of UNC for their compassionate care for our family.
Tommy was born on October 9, 1940 in the Bryant Community of Yalobusha County, MS. His family moved to Itta Bena when he was three years old and he graduated from Leflore County High School at Itta Bena. After graduation, he met and married Linda Lee Clay January 31, 1960 and they raised their family in Yazoo City, MS. The family was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Tommy retired from Southern Natural Gas Company in 1994 with 22 years of service. He also worked with his father, father-in-law and son farming which was his passion.
Tommy is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Louise La Cook; his father, Nathan Thomas Clay, Sr.
He is survived by his daughter, Lee Ann (Robert) Clark, Chapel Hill, NC; his son Nathan Thomas (Stephanie) Clay, III; and 5 grandchildren: Tyler and Lake Clay of Yazoo City, MS; Caroline (Adam) Schmelzer of Apex, NC; Rob (Laura) Clark of Garner, NC; Joe Clark (Carly) of Charlotte, NC; 3 greatgrandchildren: Camden, Catie, and Callan and his sister Elizabeth Ann Basden of Horseshoe Bend, AK.
Pallbearers will be: Tyler Clay, Lake Clay, Rob Clark, Joe Clark, David Scott, Tommy Parker, Grey Kilpatrick, Steve Keith.
