Obituary – Dwight Sibley

Rev. Dwight Lee Sibley passed away on November 23, 2023, at UMMC at the age of 62.
Bro. Dwight was born in Jackson, Ms on January 11, 1961, the son of Paul Lamar Sibley and Mildred Mernette Daniel Sibley. He grew up in Bentonia, MS where he graduated from Bentonia High School. He then graduated from Delta State University and attended Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. He served on the board of Southeastern Baptist College in Laurel, MS.
Bro. Dwight was a man of service who loved the Lord and the church. He made many sacrifices to serve and help people. He began a life dedicated to ministry in 1979 as a youth minister. His first church as pastor was Beulah Baptist Church in Myrtle, MS. He moved to Vicksburg, MS in 1993 and served at Calvary Baptist Church, Mound Baptist Church in Louisiana, Eagle Lake Baptist Church and Oakland Baptist Church, totaling 44 years of service. His life mission “My desire was to live and lead people to the Lord and His way.”
He was known by many names but his most favorite was Popsie as he was called by his much-loved grandbabies. Family meant everything to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandson Aaron Neal Sibley, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Michele Roberts Sibley, son Aaron Neal Sibley (Lizzy), daughter Kristin Cobb (Brad), brothers Danny Sibley (Rebecca) and Calvin Sibley (Cathy) and grandchildren Kinley Brooke Cobb, Grayson Reeves Cobb, Ava Grace Sibley and Adeline Elizabeth Sibley, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Oakland Baptist Church. The service will begin at 1:00 p.m. officiated by John McMullen and Charles Smith. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Methodist Church Cemetery in Bentonia, MS.
Pallbearers will be Caleb Sibley, Rob Herring, John Paul Sibley, Larry Sibley, Michael Sibley, Mark Sibley and William Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Ryan, Glenn Martin, Tommy Hancock, Paul Stupka and Yancie Ross.

Glenwood Funeral Home of Vicksburg is handling the arrangements.

    I’m Ricky Silva…my condolences to Dwight’s family,he was my friend since the 70’s..back in the Satartia school days.He invited me to his church..
    I didn’t make it.
