The body of 37 year old Dexter “DL” Smith of Belzoni was located by Deputies with the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Department shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday morning. Smith’s body was found in a wooded area off of Snake Creek Road which is located off of Highway 12 East in Humphreys County. Smith had been reported missing to the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday, July 30th. He was last seen on the morning of Monday, July 29th.
The Humphreys County Sheriff’s Department had been conducting interviews and searching for Smith since he was first reported missing. The extensive search included the use of drones operated by the MS Emergency Management Agency and assistance from the Humphreys County EMA Director.
Mr. Smith’s death is being investigated as a homicide. His body has been sent to the MS State Crime Lab for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
According to Sheriff J.D. Roseman, a person of interest has been taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Department in connection with this case.
The crime scene was processed with the assistance of the MS Bureau of Investigation and MBI Crime Scene Unit.
