Bentonia Fire/Rescue Works back to back wrecks on Highway 49 Wednesday Afternoon.

 Around 3:45 PM Wednesday afternoon Bentonia Fire Department Units responded to a wreck near Castles Chapel Road on Highway 49 involving an overturned 18-wheeler. When responders arrived on scene they found a gravel truck overturned with the driver injured. The driver was transported by Pafford EMS to Baptist Medical Center in Yazoo City. The truck was hauling sand. The accident blocked the Southbound lanes of Highway 49 for a few hours until the road way could be cleared and safe for travel.
There were no other injuries reported in the wreck. The cause is under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Responders had to leave the scene of another accident that had occurred on Highway 49 inside the Bentonia City limits to respond to the overturned 18-wheeler wreck. That wreck involved and 18 – wheeler vs car. There were no injuries reported in that incident. The cause of the first wreck is being investigated by the Bentonia Police Department.
In an unrelated incident that occurred late on the night Wednesday July 3rd, the driver of a car who wrecked while allegedly fleeing police remains in a Jackson Hospital. According to officials the driver had burglarized the Dollar General in Bentonia, but was interrupted by a stake-out of the business and fled the scene. The wreck occurred when the driver failed to make a turn and the end of Cannon Ave. and Pritchard Ave. in Bentonia. The car hit a tree in the front yard of a house located on Cathey Drive. The driver was the only reported injury in that accident.
