At 7:52 PM Monday evening (3-19-2018) Tri-Community Fire/Rescue personnel were dispatched to an ATV accident at the Taylor Rd. and Hwy 433 West intersection in the Mechanicsburg Community. A fire fighter passing by found the operator of the ATV trapped underneath a Polaris 4-Wheeler. The fire fighter accessed the scene and called for backup, then proceeded to move the 4-wheeler off of the man. He then accessed and stood by with the injured man until more help arrived. In the meantime a nurse who lives nearby and a doctor who was passing through came and helped render aid to the victim until Fire and EMS personnel arrived on scene. Upon examination by emergency personnel it was determined the man needed to be airlifted to a trauma center. A medevac helicopter airlifted the victim to a Jackson trauma center.
There were no reported witnesses to the accident. However, it appears that the operator lost control of the ATV causing it to roll over and coming to rest upright and on top of him.
The accident is under investigation by the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department.
As of last report the victim’s wife said he was being admitted into ICU Monday night.
She was also asking for prayers.
