Commissioner Simmons presents vehicle to Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department for litter removal
YAZOO CITY, MISS. – On Thursday, March 31, Transportation Commissioner Willie Simmons presented Chief Deputy Sheriff Terry Gann with a truck for $1.00 to be used for future litter removal efforts in Yazoo County.
“In an effort to keep Mississippi beautiful, we are proud to collaborate with Sheriff Jake Sheriff by presenting this truck that will contribute to a staff that will supervise offenders in the removal of trash from our state highways,” said Simmons. “I am grateful to the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department for its commitment to keep Yazoo County beautiful and encourage all of our citizens to do their part by not throwing trash along our roadways.”
Commissioner Simmons presented the truck outside of the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) District 3 Headquarters in Yazoo City on Thursday. The program is part of a partnership between the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) and local counties that aims to remove litter from state right-of-ways.
“We get a lot of complaints about trash on our highways,” said Simmons. “This unit will be utilized to help remove trash from our state highways in Yazoo County.”
